Many people often complain that they can’t do everything at the same time since they don’t have the time. But the truth is, they do have the time. They just don’t know how to put things in perspective. In other words, they just don’t know how to prioritize what they have to do.

There are actually three rules to effective time management. First is to never create impossible situations. Do things that are realistically set, and that you can finish in less time. Second is that people need to define priorities. List the most important thing that you need to do for the day, and finish that one first. The succeeding things that you need to do should come in second, third, or fourth. Lastly, it is best if people avoid distractions and concentrate more on what they have to do. Avoiding distractions means avoiding the things normal people love doing, such as watching television, surfing the internet, going out with friends or playing the computer.

Let us now discuss them in detail one by one.

When not creating impossible situations, it is best if you take things one step at a time – don’t carry on too much load. Never carry on load that you know you can’t handle. This way, you can use time to create success and not failure.

Second is that you must define priorities by using the three-step method. The first method is creating a weekly calendar. List everything that you need to do during the day – when to do this thing first, when to relax, when to start doing your project and others. Like a weekly calendar, you should also create a daily calendar too. It’s similar to doing a weekly calendar except that you should plan your work daily. Third method is that you should list your goals and other things. You can do this by listing your most important objective of the day and acting on it; if not for a day, your most important goal for the week. Just make sure that you act on them.

There are different kinds of distractions that you need to avoid. Among them are procrastination, crises management, switching and floundering, television, telephone and friends, emotional blocks and sickness.

When in need of avoiding distractions, find a place where you can study, relax, rejuvenate and unwind from the daily stresses of everyday life.
